Interior Motives
With her children grown, a stylish Atlanta resident downsized into a charming English Tudor-style cottage in Tuxedo Park originally designed by Summerour Architects. Envisioning a home that combines sophistication and comfort, she commissioned architect Amanda Orr of Amanda Orr Architects and interior designer Whitney Ray of Wyeth Ray Interiors to redesign the interior. “I call her the queen of entertaining,” says Ray. “We created a space that was intimate and comfortable for her on a day-to-day basis and grand enough for the large parties she hosts.”
Bodybuilder had a stroke at 25. And 28. At 34, she got a new heart.
When she's not baking cookies for her dessert business, Olivia Rose can often be found pumping iron at the gym. For years, she participated in amateur bodybuilding competitions and even hoped to go pro. At 25, she had the chance to make that happen – if she could finish in first or second place in a particular competition. "I looked the part," she said. "I thought I was going to win."

Nearly 20 years after it first debuted, the Bab Al Shams in Dubai reopened to guests early this year after an extensive 10-month renovation by locally based LW Design Group. Bab Al Shams, or “gateway to the sun,” is the first Rare Finds Hotels & Resorts property by Kerzner International.
Age of Grace
A longtime admirer of this rambling old brick Tudor Revival manse in Buckhead, architect Norman Askins was overjoyed when he was hired by a couple to redesign and expand the home after they purchased it from the husband’s parents. “They wanted us to take them to the top, and they trusted us to do that,” he says.

See How A Modernist Paradise Valley Masterpiece Reflects The Desert
“I wanted this house to feel like it was pulled from the ground,” a Paradise Valley homeowner muses. “It was designed to be a dwelling.” What he means by this term, he explains, is that he and his wife wanted the abode to be much more than simply a place to live. “This is a place to plant roots,” he says.

A Modern Chalet Home With A Seamless Blend Of Rustic And Refined Elements
After vacationing for nearly 20 years at their two bedroom condo in the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana, a Philadelphia-based couple with four grown children finally decided to build on the nearby five-acre lot they had purchased years earlier.
While they were not ready to build back then, they couldn’t resist the lot’s many desirable attributes, which inclu...
Bon Maison
Rather than jump right into a massive renovation, the new owners of a 1940s-era French Provincial-style Buckhead residence settled in for a couple of years while they envisioned the changes they might want to make. While they appreciated the gracious architecture, they soon realized that the interior floor plan didn’t quite meet their needs.
Ultimately, they hired interior designer Anna Booth to craft a space that better reflected them. She immediately took note of their extensive art collection, existing heirloom furnishings and love of color. “That was a great springboard,” she says.
Heart attack at 46 led to a new heart and new outlook on life
Eddie Garcia juggled roles as the chief of staff for an elected official and the president of a school board. The positions seemed to be wearing him down.
At 46, he felt short of breath, his neck was sore and he had chest pain. Could it be a panic attack, he wondered?
Later that day, a trip to a clinic led to a trip to the emergency room, and then to a diagnosis: One of the main arteries in his heart was 100% blocked. He was having a heart at...
Revel In The Midcentury-Inspired Magic Of This Arizona Home
It’s challenging enough to craft a new home that speaks to its surrounding neighborhood of midcentury dwellings while simultaneously embracing the natural environment. But one that also blends the clients’ dueling styles—one Tuscan, the other Scandinavian—and adheres to local height restrictions meant to preserve mountain views? That’s a situation in need of a well-oiled team.

Los Angeles-based interior designer, Stephan Jones, was instantly captivated when he spied the late 1980s multi-colored laminate console table by David Best through a shop window in Montecito. “I had to have it,” he says, noting Best is renowned for his astonishing temples at the Burning Man festival. “This piece needs to be featured.”
After years in storage, Jones made it the centerpiece of the eight-floor high-rise apartment in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood that he shares with husband, Arth...

She's celebrating her 50th birthday and 9th anniversary of her heart transplant
At 26, Melody Hickman of Raleigh, North Carolina, was crestfallen. A routine physical detected a problem with her mitral valve. Fixing it required open-heart surgery.
"I knew I would have to be on a heart-lung machine, and the idea of having the incision really bothered me," she said, noting she often wore V-neck tops. "It was a lot to digest."
The surgery and recovery went well. Then, 14 years later, the valve needed to be replaced again. Th...
